Friends for Life

The FRIENDS program is a school-based early intervention and prevention program, proven to be effective in building resilience and reducing the risk of anxiety disorders in children. It teaches children how to cope with fears and worries and equips them with tools to help manage difficult situations, now and later in life. The FRIENDS program is sponsored by the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) and fits within the Health & Career Education K-7 curriculum.
Anxiety is the most prevalent mental disorder experienced by children and youth. To arrange for a FRIENDS teacher training or to order your free classroom materials contact Louise Poole (250)-825-9202 or klpoole@shaw.ca.

*iMinds

iMinds helps young people in Grades 6 to 10 maximize their mental health and social-emotional literacy — the knowledge and skills they need to achieve well-being and avoid lifestyle-induced chronic illnesses. Students get a better understanding of health – health of the mind, body and spirit – and a new appreciation for health as a fundamental resource for everyday life.
All materials are available free of charge and include:
                                        - lesson plans for Grades 6-10
                                        - teacher's guide
                                        - photo masters
                                        - evaluation rubrics

*Helping Schools

Helping Schools is an online resource for educators who are committed to protecting students from harms related to substance use. The resource helps school professionals understand and address the factors that influence young people’s physical and mental health, including their choices and behaviours regarding alcohol and other drugs. Developed by CARBC, Helping Schools embraces drug education as a means of promoting health rather than a means of warning youth to avoid using drugs.
