Friends for Life
The FRIENDS program is a school-based early intervention and prevention program, proven to be effective in building resilience and reducing the risk of anxiety disorders in children. It teaches children how to cope with fears and worries and equips them with tools to help manage difficult situations, now and later in life. The FRIENDS program is sponsored by the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) and fits within the Health & Career Education K-7 curriculum.
Anxiety is the most prevalent mental disorder experienced by children and youth. To arrange for a FRIENDS teacher training or to order your free classroom materials contact Louise Poole (250)-825-9202 or [email protected].

*Helping Schools
Helping Schools is an online resource for educators who are committed to protecting students from harms related to substance use. The resource helps school professionals understand and address the factors that influence young people’s physical and mental health, including their choices and behaviours regarding alcohol and other drugs. Developed by CARBC, Helping Schools embraces drug education as a means of promoting health rather than a means of warning youth to avoid using drugs.
The Fourth R - Strategies for Healthy Youth Relationships
Fourth R initiatives use best practice approaches to target multiple forms of violence, including bullying, dating violence, peer violence, and group violence. By building healthy school environments we provide opportunities to engage students in developing healthy relationships and decision-making to provide a solid foundation for their learning experience. Increasing youth relationship skills and targeting risk behaviour with a harm reduction approach empowers adolescents to make healthier decisions about relationships, substance use and sexual behaviour.
