If you are planning to have or build a school garden on the school grounds at your school, please review these guidelines first as there are important steps to ensure you have approval and support from the Operations Department of School District 8.
Whether you are a teacher, a parent, a
principal, student or foodie-at-large, this network is designed to help
you connect with others who are starting, or have already created
successful school gardens. We welcome you to join the groupsite and share and learn from the expertise of all the members. Ask a question, give an answer, share a resource. This site is for you to network with other gardeners to promote healthy active living, hands-on learning, food literacy, sustainability, and
community-building. Happy Gardening!
Food is a big part of our lives, and there are many things we can learn from the way our food is grown, how it travels around the world, and how much it costs. Children eat food every day but they aren’t involved in its production or preparation. Yet, they are often eager to learn and to understand the food issues that come up more and more in the media, or around the dinner table. That's why we thought we'd share with you our favourite educational resources on food and farming, the environment, biodiversity, and global hunger. We’re always working to develop new tools and improve our existing ones. (Unitarian Service Committee of Canada)
