COMPREHENSIVE SCHOOL HEALTH is a framework for supporting improvement's in students educational outcomes. It's not just about what happens in the classroom. It encompasses the whole school environment with actions addressing teaching and learning, healthy school policies, partnerships and services and social and physical environment. Together these provide a strong foundation where students are supported to realize their full potential as learners – and as healthy, productive members of society.

Boy Smarts - Parents' Night Out Event - Big Success

- Reading at home is the #1 predictor of success at school (read at home at night for 15-20 minutes)
- The best thing you can do is read to your child when they are young and set an example by reading yourself
- Boys need to know the rules and you can't keep changing them. Idle threats are useless - follow through with what you say.
- Walk and talk about problems as learning needs movement
- If you've had a stressful day, let your child know how you are, it shows them it is OK to talk about how you feel
- Provide supervision around internet use as they want to share information that is forbidden
- 3 times more boys get ADHD than girls
- 80% of video game players are males
- if boys are born later in the year they have an increased chance of developing ADHD
- only 27% of boys have a person to turn to if they are having a hard time vs 60% of girls
- kids learn better if they walk or bike to school (not get driven)- they need that physical activity to activate the brain for learning
- Active learners process information more quickly, especially if that activity is outside in the environment
- Movement and memory are closely connected
- Don't take the bait if kids want to bug you - deal with it at another time when you are calmer and ask the child - what was bugging you?
- You need to talk about the body and health - there is a huge push now for beastiality - bigger is better which is false and not realistic
- Start talking about sex and body parts at an early age - 1 minute quick conversations in the car
